Audius is a music-sharing protocol. It is decentralized, community-owned, and artist-controlled. Audius offers a blockchain-based alternative to many other streaming platforms, an alternative that helps artists publish and monetize their work by distributing it directly to fans.
Audius occupies a similar space to popular music players like Bandcamp, Soundcloud, Spotify, and Pandora, but it allows artists to set their own terms as opposed to having to follow the terms of their platform. Audius also freely allows other developers to make use of Audius' underlying content.
By leveraging the AUDIO token, the Audius protocol is able to bring artists, node operators, and fans together in an incentive-aligned way, allowing these actors to collectively provide a high-quality audio streaming experience.
Audius has strong user traction, and a blue-chip investor base. The first public version of Audius went live in September 2019. Currently, the platform boasts over 5 million monthly average users. The average session length of a user on the Audius platform is, remarkably, over 40 minutes. Over 100,000 artists have also uploaded their music on the Audius platform. Thousands of new tracks are added daily.
